Broken to be Blessed

Genesis 32:22-28 

  1. Introduction
    • To the world, brokenness is bad 
    • To the Word, brokenness is desirable
      • Isaiah 42:3 (KJV) – “A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth”
        • broken and bruised, God does not throw away broken and bruised people.  He wants to mend and bless the broken
      • “It is doubtful whether God can bless a man greatly until He has hurt him deeply “- A.W. Tozer
    • God does not mostly use the blessed but the broken
  2. The Broken Brethren 
    • Abraham (Waited 25 years for child of promise)
    • Jacob wrestled all night till his hip was broken, then Jacob can become Israel (origin of the nation of Israel)
    • David (Shepherd boy who faced Goliath ran away from Saul in his broken moment.  This began his journey to become King
    • Fearing Job to become the Blessed Job – became blessed with double
    • Peter, the fisherman, to raise Peter the fisher of men (Luke 22:62 – Peter wept bitterly when he denied Jesus)
    • Saul of Tarsus was the greatest persecutor and had to be broken to become Apostle Paul
    • Jesus at the Garden if Gethsemane – God said to Jesus “You have to pay the price”
    • Next person is you
  3. To shed off the “Adamic” nature  
    • 1 Corinthians 15:45 (KJV) – “And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.”
    • hinderance to holiness, righteousness
  4. To bring you to a malleable state 
    • Too adamant to adapt
    • Too cultural to change; cannot be broken to produce the best God wants you to be
    • Jeremiah 32:33 (NLT) – “My people have turned their backs on me and have refused to return. Even though I diligently taught them, they would not receive instruction or obey.”
    • Receive instruction but lack teachable spirits
    • Be clay in the hands of the Potter. “Those who are ready to be broken will turn out to be the masterpiece of the Potter.” – PKO
  5. To  bring you to the understanding that God is in control 
    • Believing achievements are by your power
    • Hebrews 5:8-9 (CEV) – “Jesus is God’s own Son, but still he had to suffer before he could learn what it really means to obey God. Suffering made Jesus perfect, and now he can save forever all who obey him.”
    • Not selective obedience – believe the Scripture totally, not selectively 
    • Not my will but Your will
    • Being too full of yourself, God may leave you alone – A child avoiding rebuke shall be destroyed without remedy (Proverbs 29:1)
    • It takes brokenness to submit and surrender
  6. To live the rest of your life acknowledging His power and grace is sustaining you
    • Paul – God’s grace is sufficient.  His strength is made perfect.
    • God is not looking for orators (best communicator) as the world wants
    • He looks for people dependable on Him (humble)
    • Those that are broken are ready to surrender their will to His will”. -PKO
      • He will bless them abundantly 
  7. To prevent emotion from ruling the affairs of your life
    • Untamed emotion can ruin your life
    • To be forewarned is yo be fore armed.
    • Don’t stay offended.  It takes brokenness to overlook an offense
    • 1 Corinthians 9:27 – “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
    • When emotion takes you to the far left, brokenness moves you to the side of Christ
    • A life ruled by emotion will be ruined by emotion.  Brokenness prevents your emotion from taking an upper hand over your reaction. “ – PKO
