Journey to Greatness (2) – June 7, 2020
Preached by Pastor Kunle Oladebo
2 Kings 2:1 – 15
- Introduction
- Every step you take in life counts. Don’t just take any step; take that step with purpose
- The direction you are going matters; if you are going in the wrong the direction ,(does not matter pace or speed), you will end up in the wrong destination. Choose direction by faith, not sight. Especially things that matter (marriage, career, relocation)
- Be careful of your association because your association matters.
- Books you read
- Shows you watch
- People you follow on Social Media
- Emulate Elijah
- Determination: essential part of success; Strength that carries you through despite obstacles. It keeps you from quitting.
- Discouragement: path to greatness is lined with discouragement. Hold on to your vision. Destiny destroyer and undermines ability. Be careful whom you are listening to in life
- Distancing – do not keep a distance with your destiny helper; close the gap but don’t tailgate.
- Distancing – don’t keep your distance from your Creator
- Elisha never distanced from Elijah
- They had constant conversation
- They walked together
- Peter denied Jesus because of the gap (Peter was afar off). Isaiah 55:6 “Seek the Lord while He may be found,
Call upon Him while He is near.” (NKJV) - Blind Bartimeaus did not keep a distance. He called out to Jesus. If he had been afar off, Jesus may not have heard him.
- Don’t keep your distance because of delay of expectation.
- Elisha never distanced from Elijah
- Distraction – avoid distractions in life
- Many things distract us in life
- Marriage
- Social Media
- Greed
- Activities
- Pleasures of life
- When a sheep stops hearing from the Shepherd, that sheep will go astray.
- Losing sight of your captain, you ship will go in the wrong direction
- Distraction sways you away from your destiny. 1 John 2:15 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (NKJV)
- Distraction will prevent you from getting to your grace
- Take responsibility for your own life. 1 Corinthians 7:35 – “And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction.” (NKJV)
- Many things distract us in life
- Dissatisfaction: Be dissatisfied with a life of mediocrity. “Dissatisfaction is the mother of progress. Satisfaction is the enemy of progress.” – PKO
-
- Anytime God is dissatisfied with humanity, He intervenes by creating or destroying (to start over)
- Exceptional person takes responsibility and is dissatisfied with the situation
- Genesis 6:6 – “And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.” (NKJV)
- Judges 2:18 – “And when the Lord raised up judges for them, the Lord was with the judge and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the Lord was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed them and harassed them.” (NKJV)
- 1 Samuel 5:11 – “So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, “Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go back to its own place, so that it does not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.” (NKJV)
- Why be satisfied with mediocre when there is great?
- Prayer life
- Career
-
When you are dissatisfied with your spiritual life, then you can be like Enoch who walked with God. Ask God,He will increase you.
